The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial health and accounting operations of an organization. This role leads financial reporting, budgeting, payroll oversight, compliance, and internal controls while providing strategic financial insight to executive leadership. The Controller manages the accounting team, ensures adherence to GAAP, and supports operational decision-making through analysis and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee preparation of financial statements, internal management reports, and performance analyses
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance reporting against operating plans
- Manage cash flow, capital assets, and account reconciliations
- Supervise payroll processing and ensure compliance with labor and tax regulations
- Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls in accordance with GAAP
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, journal entries, and general ledger activity
- Lead and develop accounting staff, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions
- Coordinate audits with external parties, including customers, financial auditors, and government agencies
- Support contract review, pricing models, and client financial analysis
- Manage insurance coverage, claims, and relationships with financial institutions
- Provide financial insight to leadership and support special projects as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 4-10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and GAAP
- Experience with accounting and payroll systems and advanced Excel skills
- Ability to communicate complex financial information to senior leadership
